What is new media art? 


          IMMA: Irish Musical Modern Art 

          IMMA talk series- introduces problems and contradictions to media art.

         New Media Art
  • IMMA exhibits artworks from artists who use media such as painting, photography, and video.
  • IMMA collects art  to draw attention and describe a complex and contested area of contemporary art practice. 
  • Media has many forms of communication such as newspapers, magazines, television, radio and the Internet.
  • In the arts the media is limitless.
  • Talks about how the word "New" is just a relative term in something first created by someone then replaced by something newer over time. 
  • New Media is drawn from communication, entertainment, and information.
  • New media is always a changing category from film, digital technology, and biotechnology.
  • Great flexibility and versatility than tempera in the Renaissance era.

What is Participatory and Relational art ? 
  • Arts that practice emphasizing the role of the viewer or spectator in physical or conceptual realization and reception of artwork.
  • Ex. Community arts, Activist arts, Socially engaged arts, and Biological arts.
  • Can be interdisciplinary involving collaboration and a range of art forms.
  • interactions documented in pictures, video, and text.
  • informed by AVANT-GARDE movements.
  • shaped by public art
  • Relational art relies on responses of others.
  • Alter-modern- contextualizing art in today's global time. 
  • Post modern- late 20th century style and concept of art. 
  • Raymond Williams- community offers dialect of solidarity and service.
  • Relations between people and the way of aesthetic objects.
